Our colleagues from EMCC Spain in Barcelona have given us the following advice on the best way to get around Barcelona.

From the airport to the conference venue

Take the ‘aerobus’ (blue colour, not green or red) to ‘Plaça de Catalunya’, this is the end of the line. Details in English here

There’s also a metro from T1 (line 9) or from T2 (Renfe), but it takes more travel time.

From ‘Plaça de Catalunya’ to the conference venue take the metro line 7 to ‘Avinguda Tibidabo, also the end of the line. Details of the metro system in English here

For the recommended hotels

For the Angli or Vilana hotels, the closest metro stop is ‘Sarrià’ (line S1, S2, S5, S6, or S7 – not L7 or L6).

For the Catalonia or Silken hotels the closest stop is ‘El Putxet’ (line L7).

Taxis

Cabify and Uber are available in Barcelona.

There are also traditional taxis that are easily distinguishable as they are painted yellow and black. The cost into the metropolitan area (without traffic delays etc) is around €35.

Buying bus or metro tickets

A single bus or metro ticket costs €2.20 (not including transport from/to airport). The airport bus to the city centre costs €6 one way.

Alternatively you can buy a multi-trip travel card allowing 10 journeys (called a T-10) which can be used on the bus or the metro but not to/from the airport.

If you are staying more than one day of stay, you can buy a ‘Barcelona travel card’ for 2, 3, 4, or 5 consecutive days. Again this is for the bus and metro but not to/from the airport. More explanations and descriptions are available at www.tmb.cat/en/barcelona/fares-metro-bus
